Family Photo Maker vs FamilyShoot

Add a person who wasn't at the photo shoot

Family Photo Maker starts from separate photos. The person you add does not need to have stood in the original scene. Each face is taken from its own picture and placed in one new portrait.

That is different from editing the original group photo. Photoshop can add objects with Generative Fill, and Canva Magic Edit can change a selected area from a prompt. Those tools edit a file you already have. They do not replace a family-portrait generator built around separate selfies.

If you want a side-by-side look at other family generators, see Family Photo Maker vs FamilyShoot and merge family photos with AI.

Merge photos into one family photo

A photo merging tool usually means combining several pictures into one. Family Photo Maker does that for people, not for layers. You upload a photo of each person or pet. The generator writes a new family portrait in the style you pick. Everyone appears together even if the source photos were taken years and cities apart.

That is different from merging two group shots, aligning backgrounds, or blending exposures. Those edits change files you already have. This page is for the case where the missing person never stood in the original frame, or you only have separate selfies.

Up to 14 people and pets can appear in one portrait. If the group is larger, make more than one picture. Download the high-resolution file, or order a canvas or framed print.

How it works

1

Collect a photo of the person to add

Use a clear, front-facing photo. They do not need to have been at the original gathering.

2

Upload photos of everyone else

Add one photo per person or pet, up to 14 in total. Matching backgrounds are not required.

3

Pick a style

Choose one of 350+ family styles. The new portrait uses that scene for everyone.

4

Generate the portrait

Family Photo Maker creates a new picture with everyone together. It does not paste a person into the original group photo.

5

Download or print

Save the high-resolution file, or order a canvas or framed print.

Adding a person FAQ

Can I add someone who was not at the photo shoot?

Yes. Upload a photo of that person and photos of the rest of the family. Family Photo Maker makes a new portrait with everyone in one scene. It does not insert them into the original group file. Up to 14 people and pets can appear in one portrait.

Is this the same as Photoshop or Canva?

No. Photoshop Generative Fill and Canva Magic Edit change an existing photo. Family Photo Maker builds a new family portrait from separate selfies. Photoshop and Canva can add objects to a picture you already have; they are not dedicated family-portrait generators. Canva help also advises against adding faces with Magic Edit.

Do I need the original group photo?

No. Separate photos of each person are enough. If you only have a group shot of some people, crop each face into its own photo so the likeness is clear.

Is it private?

Your uploaded photos are processed securely and temporarily for generation. They are stored in your account so you can access them, and they are not used to train AI models without your explicit consent. Photos are not shared with third parties except as necessary to provide the service. You can delete individual photos or your whole account at any time. The full policy is on the Privacy Policy page.

Is this a photo merging tool?

Yes, for family portraits. You merge separate photos of people and pets into one new family photo. Family Photo Maker does not stitch or blend the original files, and it does not paste a face onto an existing group shot. Up to 14 people and pets can appear in one portrait.

How much does it cost?

One portrait costs 45 credits. See current plans and packs on the Pricing page.
